The Plaza de la Doma, the church or the Calle Mayor are worth a visit. Calle del Càlcul, a covered space that leads to the Plaza Mayor, is also one of the notable points of interest. Once in the Plaza Mayor, we find one of the most emblematic monuments of the municipality: the castle of Calonge. Construction of this fortress began in the 8th century and is one of the largest in the region. The castle is integrated into the urban nucleus and the first building was located where the so-called square tower stands today, which is the oldest part that remains. Subsequently, the castle grew in space and importance and is a sample of different architectural styles.

Calonge Castle: A medieval treasure

Calonge Castle: A medieval treasure

The castle gardens and medieval walls are open and worth a visit. The parade ground and the interior of the castle are open when activities are organized in the historic center of Calonge. A good time to visit the castle is during the Medieval Market, at Easter, when the center of Calonge is filled with shows, falcon flights and artisan stalls that make us travel back in time. It is also advisable to visit the castle during the New Wine Festival, when Calonge exhibits its winemaking tradition and its relationship with the vines and wine. The Living Nativity scene, at Christmas, also opens the doors of the castle for us, just as during the summer the Music Festivals fill the parade ground with melody.
